HEWITTVILLE ROAD BRIDGE PARTIAL DEMOLITION AND REPLACEMENT
ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, NY
The 3 span, 240 ft , 1922 Concrete Arched structure required removal of fascia precast bridge beams (installed 1977) and installation of new fascia precast bridge beams.
Both sides of the bridge were restricted by overhead electrical services and the depth of water below was too shallow for floating devices.
Removal and replacement operations by conventional crane operations were out of the questions.
Caterpillars 583 K pipe layers were used to fulfill the demands of the site and load conditions of the existing concrete arches.
HOGAN ENGINEERING,PC provided conceptual models, analysis of the existing bridge conditions, lifting loads and the ability of the lifting rigging and pipe layers to operate safely.
Sequencing lifting alternatives were analyzed to arrive at the most efficient procedure.
